The trommel screen is a widely used piece of equipment in ore dressing. By continuously rotating the screen body, large pieces of waste rock are discharged, significantly enhancing the efficiency of subsequent separation operations. During operation, the motor drives the drum assembly to rotate around its axis via a coupling connected to the reducer. Materials are tumbled and rolled, then screened progressively through meshes of varying sizes; material lodged in the screen openings is also ejected to prevent clogging. Trommels can be categorized into shafted and shaftless types. Today, we will explore the relevant knowledge surrounding these machines.
The drum screen is primarily composed of a motor, reducer, drum unit, frame, screen mesh, and inlet/outlet ports.
The roller device is installed on the frame at an incline. The motor connects to the roller device via a coupling and reducer, driving it to rotate around its axis. As material enters the drum, the combination of inclination and rotation causes the material on the screen surface to tumble and roll. This process allows qualified material (undersize product) to discharge through the outlet at the bottom rear end of the drum, while unqualified material (oversize product) exits through the discharge port at the drum’s end. The tumbling action within the drum helps eject material stuck in the screen holes, preventing blockages. While the principles and structures of drum screen sand machines, drum screening machines, and standard drum screens are largely similar, terminology may vary based on industry conventions.
1. High resistance to screen hole clogging.
2. Smooth operation with low noise levels.
3. Simple structure and convenient maintenance.
4. The screening cylinder can be closed, which is easy to seal and collect dust.
5. The whole machine has high reliability and less one-time investment.
6. Using special screen mesh, high screening efficiency, and long service life.
1. In the quarry, it is used for the classification of large and small stones and the separation of soil and stone powder.
2. Used for sand and rock separation in sand and rock yard.
3. The coal industry is used to separate lump coal and pulverized coal and wash coal (a component of coal washing machinery).
4. Used in the chemical industry and mineral processing industry to classify large and small lumps and separate powdery materials.
