Two Solutions For Fine Sand Loss In Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, both spiral sand washers and wheel sand washers share a common drawback: significant loss of fine sand during the washing process. How can this be addressed? For these issues, consider the following two solutions.

1. Sand Washer+ Dewatering Screen

This solution involves installing a dewatering screen after the sand washing equipment. Since sand washing machines typically have high output volumes, ensuring consistent sand purity can be challenging. By adding a dewatering screen, the sand transferred to the conveyor belt becomes significantly cleaner.

The primary functions of the dewatering screen are dewatering, desliming, and de-intermediation. The equipment operates with low inclination and large linear vibration. Combined with an electromagnetic vibrating screen, it effectively cleans the sand on the mesh surface. The processed sand is discharged from the screen, while water flows through the screen into the tailings pump tank.

2. Sand Washing & Recycling Machine

This method utilizes an integrated sand washing and recycling machine. Composed of a separator, dewatering screen, impeller separator, reducer, slag paddle pump, cleaning box, and other components, this unit combines the functions of both a sand washer and a fine sand recovery machine.

The working principle involves feeding the sand-water mixture into the cleaning tank, where it is separated by the impeller separator before entering the lower dewatering screen for dehydration. Wastewater from the cleaning tank—containing significant amounts of fine sand, mud, and dust—is transported to the separator via the slag paddle pump. After centrifugation and classification, the recovered fine sand is discharged onto the upper layer of the dewatering screen through grit nozzles. Meanwhile, wastewater, mud, dust, and impurities overflow from the separator into a high-level return tank for discharge. The final output consists of coarse sand on the upper layer and fine sand (or a mix of coarse and fine sand) discharged from the lower layer.
