 Mining Sand Industry

1. Silica Sand

Silica sand, also known as silica or quartz sand. It is a refractory particle with quartz as the main mineral component and a particle size of 0.020mm-3.350mm. According to the different mining and processing methods, it is divided into artificial silica sand and natural silica sand such as washed sand, scrubbed sand, and selected (flotation) sand.

2. Aggregate

Granular loose materials such as rock particles that act as skeletons, filling and stabilizing volume in concrete. According to the particle size, it can be divided into coarse aggregate and fine aggregate.

3. Natural Sand

Rock particles with a nominal diameter of less than 5.00mm formed by natural conditions. According to different sources of production, it can be divided into river sand, lake sand, sea sand, and mountain sand.

4. Artificial Sand

Rocks, pebbles, mine tailings, or industrial wastes are excavated, mechanically crushed, and sieved. Rock particles with a nominal diameter of less than 5.00mm.

5. Mixed Sand

Sand is composed of natural sand and artificial sand in a certain proportion.

6. Crushed Stone

Rock particles with a nominal particle size greater than 5.00mm, obtained by crushing and screening natural rocks or pebbles.

7. Flaky Particle in Artificial Sand

The smallest one-dimensional size of the artificial sand particles with a particle size of 1.18mm or more is smaller than the particle whose average particle size is 0.45 times the corresponding particle size.

8. Fineness Module

An index to measure the thickness of sand.

9. Dust Content

The aggregate content of particles with a nominal particle size of less than 80μm, including clay, silt, and fines.

10. Crusher Dust Content

The artificial sand has a nominal particle size of less than 0.08mm, and its mineral composition has the same particle content as the processed parent rock.

11. Soundness

The ability of an aggregate to resist fracture under the action of natural weathering or other physical and chemical factors.

12. Light Material

A substance with an apparent density of less than 2000kg/m3 in the sand.

13. Elongated and Flaky Particle

The rock particles whose length is greater than 2.4 times the average particle size of the particle size class to which the particle belongs are needle-shaped. Those whose thickness is less than 0.4 times the average particle size are flaky particles. The average particle size refers to the average value of the upper and lower limits of the particle size.

14. Crushing Value Index

The ability of artificial sand, gravel, or pebbles to resist crushing.

15. Aikali-aggregate Reaction

The chemical reaction between the alkali in the hardened concrete and the alkali active mineral in the aggregate occurs slowly in a humid environment and causes the concrete to expand, crack or even destroy.

16. Alkali-active Aggregate

Under certain conditions, it can chemically react with alkali in concrete to cause concrete to produce aggregates that expand, crack or even destroy.

17. Fluidity Ratio of Rock Fines

Under the condition of admixture and 0.4 water-binder ratios, the fluidity ratio of the cement mortar mixed with stone powder to the reference cement mortar is used to determine the index of the adsorption performance of the stone powder on the water-reducing agent.
