The Main Factors Affecting The Screening Of Trommel Screen

Date: Feb. 20, 2021

The technical and economic indicators of the trommel screening process are screening efficiency and productivity. The former is a quality index, and the latter is a quantitative index. There is a certain relationship between them, and it is also related to many other factors, which determine the results of the screening. The factors affecting the screening process can be roughly divided into three categories.

trommel screen

1. The physical properties of the screened materials

The particle size composition, humidity, mud content, and particle shape of the material itself will affect the screening quality.
When the material content is large, the productivity of the sieve is also large. When the humidity of the material is high, the screening efficiency will generally decrease. The larger the sieve size, the smaller the influence of moisture. To improve the screening process, generally, the method of increasing the sieve hole or using wet screening can be used. Materials with large mud content (when the mud content is greater than 8%) should be wet screened or washed in advance.

2. The structural parameters of the screen surface

The vibrating screen makes the particles and the screen surface move vertically, with high screening efficiency and large production capacity. The relative movement between the particles and the screen surface is mainly parallel-moving bar screens, plane vibrating screens, cylindrical screens, etc., with low screening efficiency and productivity.
For a given material, the productivity and screening efficiency of the screen is determined by the size of the screen. The productivity depends on the width of the screen surface, and the productivity of the screen surface is high. The screening efficiency depends on the length of the screen surface, which is high. The general aspect ratio is 2.
The larger the effective screen area (that is, the ratio of the mesh area to the entire screen area), the higher the productivity and screening efficiency per unit area.
The larger the mesh size, the higher the productivity per sieve surface and the higher the screening efficiency.

3. The influence of production conditions

When the load of the screen is large, the screening efficiency is low. To a large extent, the flat rate of the screen depends on the size of the screen and the overall screening efficiency. The larger the screen, the lower the screening efficiency and the higher the productivity. Feed uniformity is very important to the screening process.
The inclination of the sieve should be appropriate and is usually determined through experiments. Then there are the amplitude and vibration of the sieve, which are related to the structural characteristics of the sieve. Within a certain range, increasing the vibration can increase the screening index.
