Kaolin Sand Washing Production Line

Kaolin Introduction

Kaolin is a non-metallic mineral, primarily consisting of clay and clay rock dominated by kaolinite clay minerals. Kaolin has a wide range of applications. It is mainly used in papermaking, ceramics, and refractory materials, followed by coatings, rubber fillers, enamel glazes, and white cement raw materials. A smaller portion is utilized in plastics, grinding wheels, soaps, pesticides, medicine, chemicals, building materials, national defense, and other industrial sectors. For soft kaolin and sandy kaolin, wet beneficiation processes are generally employed.

Kaolin Production Line Process

Slurrying: Water and dispersant are added to the raw ore according to specified concentration requirements, followed by mixing or mashing. The purpose of pulping is to disperse kaolin and separate it from sandy minerals and organic impurities, preparing a slurry with suitable concentration for subsequent processing.

Coarse Sand Removal: Impurity particles such as quartz, feldspar, and mica in kaolin ore are generally coarser than 325 mesh, while kaolin has finer particle sizes, primarily concentrated below -2μm. A spiral classifier effectively removes most quartz and feldspar grit.

Sand Washing and Fine Sand Recovery: The integrated sand washing and recovery machine cleans coarse sand and separates kaolin fine sand (along with fine quartz, feldspar, and other impurities) via hydrocyclone classification. Typically, hydrocyclones of varying diameters are employed for multi-stage sorting.

Dewatering screening: The dewatering screen performs dewatering, classification, de-intermediation, and desliming of materials. The grading screen is used for material classification.

Magnetic separation: To obtain high-quality kaolin, processes such as strong magnetic separation or high-gradient magnetic separation, chemical bleaching, flotation, and selective flocculation are required. Chromophore mineral impurities in kaolin, including limonite, hematite, siderite, pyrite, anatase, and rutile, exhibit weak magnetic properties. Therefore, after sand removal, the kaolin can undergo further magnetic separation using a strong magnetic separator or a high-gradient magnetic separator.

Filtration and concentration: Suspended solids from the slurry treated by the separator are discharged into the sewage tank. Subsequently, the tailwater is pumped from the sewage tank into the thickening tank for mud-water separation. The concentrated mud is then pumped from the bottom of the filter tank into a plate-and-frame filter press to achieve a dry cake. This ensures product moisture content remains below 32-35%, saving energy and improving the working environment. After pressure filtration, the clean water enters the clean water pool, enabling water recycling.
